Investigating hydrological model versatility to simulate extreme flood events

نویسندگان

چکیده

We adapted a semi-distributed hydrological model (GRSD) to improve its versatility simulate flood events occurring under different conditions, especially flash floods after dry summer periods in the Mediterranean region. The adaptation introduces dependency on rainfall intensity production function. evaluation over 2008–2018 Aude catchment (France) showed that new structure does not deteriorate long-term simulations obtained from original model. performed better than or equal terms of differences timing peak discharges, regardless season year when occurs. most important improvement was observed simulation magnitude peaks during autumn floods. A visualization allows detection time steps tends behave more similarly differently runoff production.

Flood Risk from Extreme Events

There is increasing evidence that more frequent flooding resulting from increases in the frequency and intensity of storms are likely to be one consequence of anthropogenic climate change in many parts of the world including the United Kingdom. Flooding in the UK is currently a major and costly environmental hazard with annual damage from floods of around £1 billion at present levels of protect...

The influence of non-stationarity in extreme hydrological events on flood frequency estimation

Substantial evidence shows that the frequency of hydrological extremes has been changing and is likely to continue to change in the near future. Non-stationary models for flood frequency analyses are one method of accounting for these changes in estimating design values. The objective of the present study is to compare four models in terms of goodness of fit, their uncertainties, the parameter ...

Vegetation responses to extreme hydrological events: sequence matters.

Extreme hydrological events such as flood and drought drive vegetation dynamics and are projected to increase in frequency in association with climate change, which could result in sequences of extreme events. However, experimental studies of vegetation responses to climate have largely focused on responses to a trend in climate or to a single extreme event but have largely overlooked the poten...

develop a non-parametric model to simulate monthly hydrological data

one of the water resources modeling requirements is sufficient knowledge of long-term series of meteorological and hydrological parameters. in this study the nearest neighbor resampling method presented by lall and sharma was developed. in the developed model, the knn regression was used for time series forecasting instead of local polynomial used in the developed algorithm by prairie. in this ...

evaluation of loss methods to simulate flood events (case study: kasilian basin)

abstract the aim of this study, is to evaluate the effect of loss methods application on run-off volume and hydrograph shape used by hydrologic models. in this research, four loss methods including constant loss (φ index), initial loss-loss rate, scs and constant fraction approach were applied to be evaluated. to do this, clark rainfall-runoff model was applied for 24 storm events from kasilain...
